The Geographic Range tool calculates the distance between you, the
observer and an object that just becomes visible on the horizon.
Various landmarks and the heights of those landmarks are noted on some
charts, nautical almanacs and other aids to navigation. When a landmark
becomes visible on the horizon, you can determine the distance between the
point of observation and the object.
To calculate your distance to the horizon type your eye height above the
water for Observer Height.
To calculate the distance to an object on the horizon:
- Type your eye height above the water for Observer Height.
- Click Use Object Height and type the height of the object
You can select the units to use for both height and distance.
