Home  Safety  Safety Equipment Checklist  Inspection Overview

If you want to be sure your boat meets all federal and state requirements, and is equipped so that you and your passengers will enjoy safe and worry-free outings, conduct your own inspection using this Inspection system. Performing your own boat inspection not only protects you against fines for equipment-related citations, it can help prevent accidents as well.

We believe that it’s not enough to meet only the legal requirements because the equipment specified by federal and state law are bare minimums and may be inadequate to meet your needs in an emergency. Therefore the Inspection Guide and Checklist include recommendations for equipment above and beyond the minimum. It also covers legal boat registration, boat systems such as ventilation and fuel systems, as well as your boat’s overall condition.

The Inspection Guide and Checklist are both available in three formats and you may download them in your choice of Word, PDF or Rich Text Formats. We recommend that you read the Inspection Guide first so you will have a better understanding of what you are looking for in your inspection, and why. Then print out the Inspection Checklist and take it to your boat. When you have completed your inspection, the unmarked boxes on the Checklist will identify items that need your attention.
