Hats off to Rick's for its very successful word-of-mouth marketing!
It seems that throughout my years in Tampa, I have heard nothing but
wonderful things about this place, but have never been in the right
place at the right time to try it out. So when we took off one
afternoon down the Hillsborough River, we were bound to see what the
river-rat hubbub was all about (outside of the Gasparilla crowds).
Rick's was only a few miles down the river and gave us a nice surprise
with its abundance of dock space. It was pretty full, but offered us
easy mooring. They are infamous for their grouper sandwich, but not
being a big fish fan, I'll leave that review up to you. Everyone
enjoyed their food, from sandwiches to buffalo wings, and the service
was great (always a plus when you've been out in the heat most of the
day).
Beyond their outdoor deck and tables, Rick's has a nice indoor bar area
with pool tables if you want to get out of the sun and relax in the air
conditioning for a while. They also liven the place up a bit with
live bands playing Thursday through Sunday.
They also offer ice and beer as well, so you can easily reload your
boat supplies while you take care of your lunch check. Convenience
always gets a good review in my book!
