If you can get through the pass to the east of Shell Key, you can hug the markers and find a great little restaurant nestled back in the mangroves. Billy's Stone Crab & Steak has great atmosphere, easy access and good food.
The downside is that tying up can be tricky. That is of course if you can find space. A luxurious WWII vintage landing craft makes for the pier. It can handle one boat over 30' and probably around 2 in the teens. However, if you're coming with more than one boat you can always moor alongside each other.
It is possible that you will not find a place to tie up. I would suggest 11.30 AM as a good time. We have always found space around this time. However, before committing yourself through the 5' channel, you can give them a call and see if they have room. |
