This island has many names. Locally, it is known as Beer Can Island. However,
for navigation purposes it is Pine Key Island. This is what you will see on charts.
For an easy trip, visit Pine Key Island in southern Hillsborough Bay. This
island is a great place to stop for a quick lunch on the boat or to relax
with a campfire, but Pine Key Island is best known for its over abundance
of sand dollars.
Because it is so easy to get to and basically in the middle of everything,
Pine Key Island is usually rather crowded.
There are several anchoring options here and all are fairly good. We prefer
the north side of the island which is the approach channel to the powerplant.
